Library Procedures for Borrowing Books
_
1. Kindergarten and up – students may check
out books
K-gr. 1 2 books limit
Gr. 2-3 3 books limit
Gr. 4-8 4 books limit
PreK Parents may register as patrons to borrow books.
2. Loan period: 2 weeks.
Students must return checked out books each week if they wish to borrow during their class visit.
The due date will be the latest date stamped on the Date Due slip at the back of the book.
3. Overdue books
A dated notice will be sent home after a book has not been returned within one week of the due date. If the book has not been returned within a week of the notice, a second dated notice will be sent home.
If a third notice must be sent home, the student’s family will be billed for the replacement cost of the book.
If the book is returned in good condition at this point, the student won’t have to pay any charges.
Gr. 1 and up - if a student receives a third notice/bill for an overdue book, that student will receive a lower grade for the quarter in which the third notice was sent home.
4. Family moves/student transfer
If a school family moves away during the school year or transfers its students to another school, all library books must be returned before leaving St. John Catholic School.
5. Damaged and Lost Books
If a student loses a book, that student’s family will be billed for the replacement cost of the book.
If a book is returned in damaged condition that cannot be repaired (a pet chewed it, food or drink was spilled, the cover is torn off, pages drawn on in crayon or ink, etc.), the student’s family will be billed for the replacement cost of the book.
A family may choose to provide a NEW replacement copy for the lost or damaged book if they prefer.
